We found these crates at the flea market recently and they have so many uses! I use them in my booth at the flea market to show off product and they also make pretty sweet porch pumpkins! Let me show you this Wooden Crate Porch Pumpkin Diy! Make sure to check out our other Fall Diys while you’re here!

Supplies needed for this diy :

  • Wooden crate
  • Orange paint
  • Water
  • Container for paint
  • Chippy paint brush
  • Tree branch
  • Screws and screwdriver
  • Burlap ribbon
  • Zip tie
  • Grapevine wire
  • Hot glue

1. Paint your crate

I used this chalk paint, but you can just use acrylic paint. Just use what you have. Add a bit of water to it so it goes farther, because you just want to dry brush it basically.

Notice how it’s just lightly covering the wood? I used a chip paint brush for this.

2. Add a Stem

We have a downed tree from a recent storm, so we used a branch from that to cut our stems from.

Then we screwed them onto the top from underneath the inside of the top.

We cut one end at an angle so it would be more like a real pumpkin stem.

3. Make a Burlap Bow

Start your bow off by cutting two pieces, one longer. See measurements below.

Take the longest piece and fold both ends together and overlap them in the middle.

Then pinch it together in the middle like in the pictures below.

Pinch the shorter piece in the middle the same way then add it to the first piece.

Use a zip tie to tie it together.

Last, I used a small piece of the cut burlap to make a center piece and I dovetailed the ends.

4. Add Your Bow to Your Pumpkin

I used hot glue to add my bow to the pumpkin, right at the base of the stem.

5. Add a Pumpkin Tendril

Using grapevine wire, make a large pumpkin tendril by wrapping it around something cylindrical. I attached it with hot glue, and kind of stuck it right under the stem.

And that’s it! Now you have a super cute pumpkin for your front porch! And this one won’t rot! Ha!
