The only thing you need for this project is some paint and a rub on transfer and you have a like new piece of home decor that you can design to match your style! My style is farmhouse, so of course that is the theme of this Vintage Wooden Calendar Transformation, but you can use whatever theme that matches your home decor! Make sure to check out our other Thrift Store Flips while you’re here!
Supplies needed to complete this project :
- A wooden perpetual calendar
- Paint in your color choice
- Rub on Transfers (I used these Farmhouse Rub on Transfers)

Step 1 : Inspect and Remove Unwanted Parts
If you are lucky enough to find one of these in your thrift store, make sure to check that all pieces are still available. But don’t let that deter you from getting it, because you can actually make more pieces if necessary. We’ve been pretty lucky when we’ve found these in our thrift stores and all pieces are usually still there.

When you are ready to transform your calendar, remove any unwanted parts. It was actually pretty easy to pop off the little house on this calendar, by using a metal scraper tool. Also, remove the brackets for holding the month plates so you can paint. After that was complete, we sanded where the removable pieces were then moved on to the painting.

Step 2 : Time to Paint
Of course, we used chalk paint, because we love the coverage, but you can use any paint really on a wooden piece. If the piece has painted parts that you want covered however, you should probably consider using chalk paint. Our favorite is Chalky Chicks Furniture Paint! If you have time to check them out, make sure to use our code (ECLECTICTREASURES) to get our discount!

We painted the entire piece white. We did use a couple of coats and we had to switch brushes to get into the small crevices. It looked so super fresh when it was completely painted.

Step 3 : Add the Transfer
Once your wooden calendar is completely dry, remove the backing from the transfer that you plan to use, then carefully place it onto your surface. Then you want to rub each part of the transfer, lifting it up periodically to make sure you are getting it all off the backing. You also want to add back the brackets that hold your month marker to make sure your transfer lines up.

Step 4 : Add Back the Wooden Day Pieces
The last couple of things you want to do is to add your wooden day pieces to the slots and hand letter the days of the week, which is what we did. If you have a vinyl cutting machine, you could make labels to use instead. I decided just to hand letter and I think it turned out great and added to the rustic appeal!

How fabulous is this y’all?! I just love how it turned out so very much! This was such a fun and easy Vintage Wooden Calendar Transformation!
