Supplies needed for this Shabby Chic Autumn Garland
- 2 packs of burlap leaves from Dollar Tree
- White acrylic or chalk paint
- Gold letters – Mine came from Hobby Lobby
- Faux pearl strand
- Raffia
- Glue gun and hot glue
1. Paint your leaves
The first thing I did was white wash my burlap leaves. If you aren’t able to find the leaves anywhere, make your own! Download a leaf clipart from the internet and trace that onto burlap fabric. You could use spray starch to stiffen it up if necessary.
After they are painted, hang them to dry. I found these small clips at the Dollar Tree, but you can get them on Amazon, too.
2. Add letters to the leaves
After my leaves were dry, I added my gold letters. If you happen to have a cutting machine, such as a Cricut or a Silhouette Cameo, you could cut your own letters out of glitter cardstock. This is a great way to really make this project to fit your style perfectly. I do have a Cameo, but I had the gold letters from another project and they worked perfectly for this.
To attach them to the burlap leaves, I used hot glue. They are stickers, but they do not stick to the burlap well on their own, so the glue was necessary.
3. Add your leaves to a faux pearl strand
Once I got all of my letters attached, I hung up my faux pearl strand so I could start placing my leaves. I started in the middle of the strand and worked my way out. The leaves have a stem on them that are bendable, so I folded those over and that is how I hung them onto the pearl strand.
4. Add raffia detail to each leaf
To secure them, I used a piece of raffia. You could just use hot glue on the back, but I thought the leaves needed a bit more, and the raffia fit that shabby ticket!
5. Decorate your mantel with it for fall!
And that was it! I absolutely love how it turned out!! It was the perfect addition to our farmhouse fireplace mantel! Tell us what you think in the comments!!
