Isn’t it fun to turn something cute into something beautiful?! I found this sweet sign at the dollar store that reads ‘Fresh Flower Market’, and while it’s cute, I felt like it needed something extra. It needed to be part of something else. So, I borrowed from one of my January DIYs, Farm House Signs – Gallery Wall Project, and put the two together to make this Rustic Flower Sign to add to my spring decor! I absolutely love how it turned out!
Supplies needed for this DIY :
- Sign from Dollar General – Now, don’t be discouraged if you can’t find this particular sign. Use a different one! Check your Dollar Tree, too! Or if you’re feeling froggy, make your own out of cardboard! Use your imagination!
- One package of paint sticks from any hardware store – Mine came from Home Depot
- Flowers and Greenery – You can get these anywhere! I bought mine from Walmart.
- Jute rope
- Buffalo plaid ribbon
- Tiny rosettes
- White and black paint and brushes
- Hot glue gun
Let’s get started on our rustic flower sign!
The first thing I did was make my board using paint sticks. A package usually contains 10 sticks which is exactly what you need for this project. I lined them up, making sure to turn every other one, so the handles of the sticks were not all on the same side. Once I had eight of them lined up, I used the last two to secure them together, using hot glue. These two had to be cut in order to do this. See the progress pics below!
Now we get to paint!!
Next, we painted our board! White was what I used to completely cover the surface of the board. Once that dried, I added black accents for that rustic, farmhouse appeal. If you like a cleaner look, leave it white. I think this would also look fabulous! Make it your own! Pallet wood or shiplap is kind of my jam right now, so I followed the lines of the paint sticks to give it that personality.
After the paint was dry, I added the dollar store sign using hot glue. This is what we have so far.
Next up – Jute!
Cut jute pieces for each side and secure with hot glue! Easy peasy!
Let’s add some color to our rustic flower sign!
I cut pieces from several different floral options and adhered them to the bottom of my sign using hot glue. Some ideas are soft pink roses, lamb’s ear, lavender, etc.
Add a buffalo plaid or burlap bow and your sign is ready for display in your home! You could add a hanger to the back or you can use an easel for a tabletop piece! How fun is this?! You don’t have to spend a lot of money to look like you did! I love this piece! Check this out! Wowza!
