How fun is this little guy, huh?! If you found yourself lucky enough to have found those square wood planks from the Dollar Tree this year, pull those out and let’s make Rudolph the Square Head Reindeer! See below all the supplies that you will need for this reindeer DIY!
Reindeer DIY Crafting Supplies
- Square wood planks from Dollar Tree or they have them on Amazon as well.
- Brown paint, stain, or wax
- Pink and brown felt
- Red pom pom
- Wooden beads
- Twine
- Sharpie marker or black paint
- Raffia
- Sticks from your yard (or someone else’s yard – just make sure you get permission – watch out, they might recruit you for future yard duty) Ha!
- Sandpaper or a sanding block
- Hot glue gun and glue. I just purchased a new glue gun, a Ryobi cordless one. I’m excited to have a true cordless glue gun now.
Let’s give our reindeer a face!
Use either paint or a permanent black marker to draw two circles for eyes. I thought about adding googly eyes, but it did not look right to me.

Next, color in those circles and add some white paint dots to finish up his eyes.

Last, add a mouth by drawing a straight line down, then two upside down curved lines off to either side.

Isn’t he cute so far?!
He needs a nose. I used a red pom pom for his perfect little nose. Rudolph is coming to life!

Start his ears by cutting an ear shape out of the pink felt. I just eyeballed this. Cut two. Afterwards, I placed the pink felt onto the brown felt and trace a slightly larger ear shape out of that. Glue the pink felt ear piece onto the brown felt ear piece. Add hot glue to the center of the bottom edge and fold the bottom sides together.
Attach the ears to your deer head.

Next, add your twigs to your deer head using hot glue. I forgot to add that you want to drill a hole in the wood plank right at the top center so you will be able to hang it. Also try to find twigs that have more than one branch extending off of it so it looks more like antlers.

Rudy’s almost ready to hang out on the tree!

Next Up! Wood Bead Hanger!
I am a complete sucker for wood beads. They have become an almost everyday supply that gets used for various reasons. One being hangers! Insert your doubled up twine into the drilled hole and create a slip knot. Then string some beads onto the twine. Add a knot to the top and then another knot to the end to create your hanger.

Last step is to add a tuft of hair to this little cutie. Raffia works perfectly for this.

Your reindeer DIY is complete!
