I like to use non traditional items for creating so when I saw these ceiling fan globes, I grabbed them! The ruffled fluted design is perfect for making this fun Halloween decoration! Let me show you How to Turn a Ceiling Fan Globe into a Ghost! Make sure to check out our other Fall DIYs while you’re here!

Supplies needed for this project :

  • Ceiling fan globe
  • White chalk paint
  • Sharpie Pen
  • Black acrylic paint
  • Mod podge
  • Halloween colored ribbon
  • Ribbon Spool Hat
  • Hot glue
  • Brown cardstock tag

1. Paint your Light Globe

This project is so simple but I do have a few tips for you. First, I would use chalk paint for this project due to it’s coverage compared to acrylic paint. My favorite is Chalky Chicks Furniture Paint from 2 Chicks & a Toolbelt.

This is the coverage after only one coat. Sometimes you can get away with just one coat, but I will add another coat to these.

2. Draw the Ghost Face

Once your globes are painted and dried, grab your sharpie pen (I love these pens!) and start to draw your ghost face. I drew two simple circles next to one another for the eyes.

After the eyes, I drew a vertical oval for the mouth below the circles.

3. Paint the Ghost Face

Now take a small paint brush that has an angled tip, using your black acrylic paint, fill in your circles and oval.

4. Seal the Paint

When you’ve dried your eyes and mouth, it’s time to seal the whole thing. I just used mod podge for this. You don’t want to skip this step, because it’s painted glass. If left unsealed, it is more easily scratched and the paint will come off. If sealed, you won’t have that problem.

5. Add a Bow Tie

This is a ghost fella, so I added an orange gingham bow tie to his “neck” area.

6. Add a Top Hat

Add that same gingham ribbon to a top hat for a color coordinated outfit! Learn how to make this adorable hat >>HERE<<!

To attach it, I put a bead of hot glue around the top opening and sat the hat right on top!

Press down to get a good seal, and your ghost is already looking quite fetching!

7. Add a Tag

Last thing to add is a cute handmade tag. I lettered the phrase Hey Boo on a brown cardboard tag that I trimmed to mimic our little ghost. Then added some black paint around the edge of the tag. Tie it onto the hat using crochet thread or thin jute.
