Have you ever made grilled chicken in your air fryer? I had not, until just the other day. I wanted to make us a salad and we love to top it with grilled chicken. Usually, I will buy the precooked grilled chicken, but we didn’t have any on hand and I had fresh chicken that we needed to use. We’ve used our air fryer for lots of other things; sausage, french fries, okra, etc, but never chicken. Well, let me just tell you, if you haven’t, do it! Lol It was fabulous!  Allow me to show you how to make grilled chicken in your air fryer!

What is an air fryer?

“An air fryer is similar to an oven in the sense that it bakes and roasts, but the difference is its heating elements are only located on top and are accompanied by a large, powerful fan, resulting in food that’s super crispy in no time — and, most notably, with less oil than deep-fried counterparts.” Good Housekeeping

My recommendation is that you start with fresh chicken, not frozen. This recipe uses fresh, so I can’t guarantee the cooking times if you use frozen. See your air fryer handbook for frozen meat options.

I placed three large chicken breasts down onto the air fryer tray. I did not get a before picture because I didn’t think until mid-recipe about sharing it. The chicken turned out so well, I couldn’t not share about it, though! The picture below was after it had cooked on one side.

Once my chicken was in the air fryer, I drizzled it with grapeseed oil. This is not my oil of choice, but it was what I had on hand. I normally would use olive oil or coconut oil for the air fryer. You just want to use a high heat oil. After the oil, I sprinkled on liberal amounts of salt, fresh cracked black peppercorn, garlic and onion powder, and italian seasoning. I set my heat at 370 degrees and set the timer for 10 minutes.

The above picture is what my chicken looked like after the first 10 minutes. Again, I didn’t get a picture of the chicken after I flipped it. When we make it again, I’ll update this blog post with all the progress pictures. I drizzled oil again and added the same seasonings to the other side before cooking again for 10 more minutes. If you have a meat thermometer, after the 20 minutes, the middle of your thickest piece should read about 160 degrees. If not, continue cooking for about 3 minutes at the time. I had to do this once. I usually just cut into my chicken to eyeball it’s doneness, but to be on the safe side, I’m recommending a thermometer.

What do you like on your salad?

We prefer romaine lettuce in our salads, but iceberg is good also if that’s what you have. I like to get those English cucumbers (in the winter) that come pre-wrapped, because the peel is less bitter than a regular cucumber. We also love tomatoes, mushrooms, black olives, and boiled eggs on our salads. Our dressing of choice is usually Ranch. Have you tried the chipotle Ranch? Yum!

I think it’s time to eat!

Y’all this seriously was the best grilled chicken I think I’ve ever had! It was not dry at all. It was tender and juicy and perfect on top of our salads! That everything french bread from Walmart topped it off pretty good, too! Lol
