Supplies needed for this project :

  • Thrifted crochet or knit sweater
  • Another stocking for a template
  • Hot glue
  • Scissors
  • Embellishments

1. Cut out your stocking pattern

I used another stocking to cut out the pattern from the sweater. Make sure the two cuts are different, one to the left, one to the right. Otherwise, your stocking won’t have the same side of the sweater on the outside. Place the stocking on your sweater and cut around it. It would probably be even easier if you used a rotary blade.

See how the two sides are different?

2. Glue the two sides together

I don’t have pictures of this process, but you can see how this is done >>HERE<<. Basically, you just use hot glue around the edges to glue the two pieces together, except the top of course.

The photo below shows how I added the sweater hem to the top of the stocking to create the rim. Basically, I put right sides together and glued together along one side of the hem and the edge of the top of the stocking.

This is what your stockings should look like after it’s completely glued together and the top rim is added.

3. Add a Hanger

Using that same hem that you used on the rim of the stocking, you can create a hanger for the stocking! Basically you take about a foot section of it and fold it in half and glue it to the inside of the heel side of the stocking.

4. Add Embellishments

The last thing that I did was I added a Simple Awareness Bow using that same hem from the sweater.

I also added a gingerbread button and small peppermint ornaments. You could add whatever makes sense for you however.
