Supplies needed for this project :
- Wooden 8″ embroidery hoop
- White or off white fabric for background
- Small red rosettes
- White daisies
- A large blue flower
- Brown paint or wax
- Wet wipes
- Scissors
- Hot glue
- Cardboard or cardstock
- Small letter stencils
- White paint
- Jute
Step one : Stain your hoop
Using either a dark wax or a light brown paint, add a little color to the top or outer hoop only. No need to do this to the inner hoop, because you won’t see it anyway.
I like to use this antique wax from Waverly and apply it with a wet wipe.
Step two : Add background fabric
Now you want to add whatever background fabric you plan to use. I used drop cloth. Don’t cut it just yet. I like to wait until I’m finished with a piece, so I can pull the fabric tight again before cutting it.
Step three : Add flowers
For my white stripes, I added these white and yellow daisies, using hot glue to adhere them.
Then I added the small red rosettes next for my red stripes. A sweet follower of mine sent them to me in a craft supply package recently and I was excited to get to use them for this project!
I added one more row of daisies and one more row of rosettes, shortening the rows a bit to allow for the blue. The last flower that I added was a big blue Sola wood flower! Another follower had sent me the Sola wood flowers, too! I have some of the best followers on Facebook! If you’re not following me there, I would love for us to connect there as well!
Once all flowers were added, I then pulled the fabric tight, tightened up my hoop, then cut the extra from around it. At this point, I thought I was finished, but it needed something else. I tried to make a bow, and that just wasn’t it. Then I thought about a pennant banner! That was perfect to finish this Floral Patriotic Embroidery Hoop! You can use brown cardstock or cardboard. I just so happened to have some miniature pennants in my scrapbook supplies, so I used those!
Using letter stencils, I added the letters, USA, in white paint. Then I added some paint around the edges of the pennants, and glued the pennants to a piece of jute. Lastly, I glued the banner to the embroidery hoop to finish it off!
I think this Floral Patriotic Embroidery Hoop Decor turned out so sweet and it was super simple to make! Maybe it will inspire you to create something similar for your patriotic home decor! Before you leave, I hope you will join our email family so we can keep in touch!
