Supplies needed for this project :

  • Storage trunk or something similar
  • White chalk paint (Make sure to use code ECLECTICTREASURES when checking out for our discount) You’ll love this chalk paint!
  • Gold acrylic paint
  • Flower Market Vinyl Decal
  • Artificial florals

1. Paint the trunk

The first thing I did was paint the wooden trunk with white Chalk Paint! This trunk required two coats. I did not paint the hinges however. You can tape those off or just carefully paint around them.

Here is the back of the storage trunk. You can definitely see that I need another coat. Just make sure to let each coat dry thoroughly before applying the next. I always give mine a couple of hours at least. Trust me, you’ll thank me.

2. Paint the hinges and distress the edges

Sorry I did not get a photo of the storage box after the second coat of paint. After you get it painted with the white, use some gold acrylic paint to dry brush the hinges and to distress the edges. I dry brushed the whole thing actually and love how it turned out!

Here is an up close shot of the gold dry brush that I added. When I say dry brush, I just mean that I got a very little bit of paint onto a chippy paint brush and lightly brushed it over the surface of the trunk.

I decided not to paint the inside of the trunk, because I have plans for the inside of it.

3. Add a Vinyl Decal

After much deliberation and seeking advice from my sister and brother, we decided that we wanted to make it floral themed. I found this amazing vinyl file on the Silhouette Design Store that I wanted to use. You can find the file on Etsy to purchase >>HERE<< if you have a cutting machine.

Here it is after adding the decal! Isn’t it gorgeous?!

4. Add some florals

These are the only florals that I had in my stash so they don’t exactly match what is on the decal, but they still look amazing I think! What about you? Let me know what you think in the comments below!
