Supplies needed for this project :

  • Two skeleton garlands from the Dollar General
  • Halloween fabric fat quarter from the Dollar Tree
  • Scissors

1. Cut your fabric into strips

I started with a fat quarter and cut that in half. Then I cut snips along the long edge about 1.5 inches apart. Then just start ripping at the cut.

2. Tie the strips onto the jute

Now, you want to tie the fabric strips onto the jute that the skeletons are already hanging on using a lark’s head knot. I did two in between each skeleton and two on the outside. Two garlands were used so I just removed the skeletons from one garland and added them onto the first one.

How to make a lark’s head knot

You start by folding over your fabric strip. Place it under the jute. Insert both of your ends over the jute and into the opening of the other end. Pull the ends tight until the fabric strip is secure onto the jute.

Just keep adding the strips until you have as many as you want. And that’s it! Hang it on your mantel!
