Do you have some furniture that you want to makeover? We found this dresser at a yard sale and couldn’t pass it up for the price. It’s a beautiful French Provincial chest of drawers. We wanted to make it ever more beautiful!! Keep reading to see this diy chest of drawers makeover!
Step one: Clean it!
First thing you want to do is clean your piece of furniture. We usually just use gentle soap and water.
You can see here a little bit of blue paint around the edges of the top. I had started with a different color blue that I didn’t like, so I sanded it off to start over. Lol But after that was removed, I used paper towels and soapy water to clean all surface areas.
Remove all your drawers and clean the interior of the furniture also.
Step two: Start painting
I like to use chalk paint from 2 Chicks & a Toolbelt. They have some very good quality chalky paint! It’s called Chalky Chicks Furniture Paint and you can get it >>HERE<<! Use our coupon code {ECLECTICTREASURES} for our discount when ordering!
I started with the top just to get an idea what the color was going to look like. This is an amazing blue color. The name of this color is Denali.
This is how it looks after that first coat. The dresser had a glossy top coat, so it will require a second coat of the chalk paint, but it covered fairly well considering.
Paint inside where the drawers slide in an out, but no need to paint any further into it, unless you just want to.
Here are more angles of it after the second coat was applied.

Step three: Work on the drawers
Now you’ll paint the drawer faces. We always like to add something extra to our pieces, and the gingham fabric was the perfect touch! We lined the inside of the drawers with it.
We used mod podge to add the fabric to the insides of the drawers. To get the fabric lined around the curved part of the drawer, I laid the fabric inside. Then used a pencil to lightly trace against that curve. Then I cut it with scissors and applied it.
Step four: Paint the drawer pulls
I decided to paint the drawer pulls white and then did a light wash with the blue color to accent the dresser and be able to stand out.
Step five: Wax it!
The last thing to do once it completely painted is to seal it with either wax or a polycrylic. I used Waverly wax on this piece.
And that’s it! Enjoy your new beautiful piece of furniture!

I like the transformation! My mom still has the 5 pc French provincial bedroom furniture set that my sister and I had in our room in the late 1960’s. It’s the original off white with powder blue edging. The top of each of the dressers all have a somewhat shiny finish. Not sure how that would take paint. Any thoughts? Did you use a brush or a roller?
I used a chalk paint brush and you can lightly sand if you want to rough up the surface a bit, but with chalk paint, it’s really not necessary.
This is so pretty! I love that blue! Y’all always do such a fantastic job on your wood pieces. 🥰
