See how I turned this dated metal shelf that once was my grandmother’s into a fun new bathroom piece! I hope you like this DIY bathroom shelf makeover!

Supplies needed for this diy:

  • Small shelf
  • Spray paint
  • A vinyl decal to match any flooring or pattern in your bathroom (Send us a message about making your custom decal!)

Since the shelf is metal, we went with spray paint to color it.

Make sure to use spray paint outside or in a well ventilated area away from any vehicles or structures that you don’t want spray to get on.

It helps to paint when it’s not windy, too.

We didn’t cover it completely and left patches of barely covered metal to age the piece. Sounds counterintuitive doesn’t it? Painting a dated piece to look like a dated piece. 🤣

You can kind of see the dark patches all around the shelf. You might also notice the blank oval area. I decided to try to match the pattern on our bathroom floor.

This is the tile on our floor and I love it so much! The whole bathroom has a black and white theme going on.

You can really see the dark shadowy places here in this picture.

I took a picture of one of the tiles and created a vinyl decal to fit into the oval blank shape on the back of the metal shelf.

I then added the decal to the shelf!

It’s just a simple shelf, and wasn’t really my style, but it belonged to my grandmother so I wanted to keep it.

So a little paint and a decal and it’s more me! I love how it turned out! What do you think?
